Scorpio Season 2018 - 22 October to 22 November

Once upon a time, Scorpio was ruled by Planet o’ War, Mars. They say that Mars is lucky in war but a loser at love. And what exactly is war? War is the acquisition of that which we desire. That’s why Mars and Venus-- the planet of valuation and desire and attraction-- are paired with one another. More harmonious beauty to be seen from the Universe is that Scorpio’s sister-sign is Venus-ruled Taurus and Aries sits across from his sister-sign of Venus-ruled Libra. They go hand in hand because Venus dictates what we desire and Mars dictates how we get it.

Pluto now rules over Scorpio, but the sentiment has not changed. Through mythology we know that Pluto as a Romantic god ruled over the Underworld, where he spent most of his time. What we may not know is that Pluto was originally the god of the physical underworld because he was considered the giver of precious metals and other mined things, such as precious stones. He then became the god of the spiritual underworld, and this is where things get hairy. Never before has the Underworld been considered the negative place of torture and torment that it is today due to Christianity. All spirits went to the Underworld for a time before they were returned to the plane of the living, much like the Judaic She’ol.

My interpretation of this is that this Underworld is representative of those subconscious parts of ourselves that we hide and do not give life, love, and light to. It’s the parts of us that we repress and only reveal when we know that we are in a safe space. This is why it may feel like Scorpio’s draw our secrets out of them; we feel we can trust them. But can we? Scorpios are said to be prone to suspicion, a possible and probable projection that comes from knowing just how many secrets that they themselves may be keeping (be it their own or those of others). This is also why Scorpios are related to sex-- so many of our secret shames surround sexual desires that are painted as taboo by our dominating social paradigms. What do they say of sex? “Everything is sex, except sex. Sex is power.” Ultimately, Scorpio is a planet about eruptive change (what’s more of a massive difference than life and death) and power as well as how we acquire power.

Aries and Scorpio both use aggression to get what they want, but as characteristic of fire, Aries is direct, and as characteristic of water, Scorpio is not. Water signs are known for being emotionally manipulative and passive aggressive-- this does not exclude Scorpio. Tapping into their massive reserve of emotional energy they have been storing up, they will sting you into submission with a single trigger. And with all those secrets, they do know our triggers. Scorpios will use covert, sly means of acquiring that which they want, and is this not characteristic of Pluto?

Perhaps the most well-known story about Pluto is his abduction of Proserpina (Gr. Persephone) daughter of grain and Earth goddess Ceres (Gr. Demeter) and Jupiter. By Venus’s orders, Pluto was hit by one of Cupid’s arrows, causing him to fall in love with Proserpina. Pluto erupts from a volcano, and abducts the “fair maiden”. Ceres, wrought with grief, goes into the world to find her daughter, refusing to return to Mt. Olympus. Jupiter sent Mercury to demand that his daughter be returned as Ceres was not allowing anything to grow, but Pluto has her eat six pomegranate seeds before leaving-- thus she is forced to return every six months to the Underworld to live with her husband and reign as Queen of the Underworld.

This is the myth of the change of seasons. It also speaks to the nature of the planet Pluto and the sign associated with it. Controlling people and situations in order to get what we want, overpowering those around us without regard to how that may impact them, draining others at their expense, manipulating people into succumbing to their will. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Outside agents forced Pluto into acting in a dishonorable way to acquire what he so frenziedly desired. His obsession pushed him to force his will upon not only the one he abducted by the whole world-- and people suffered. But this doesn’t have to be true. Pluto inadvertently robbed the world of all of its light, effectively spurring Ceres’s destruction of life on Earth. While it may not have been the most ideal compromise (and it was ill-gotten), there was a compromise where both parties were able to enjoy the presence of the Light of Life.

If we observe Proserpina as the Light of Life she represents our personal contentment. Ceres (the world) was robbed of their personal contentment and the ability to lead a happy life by Pluto, who disregarded anyone else’s will or want in order to get what he wanted. This is not okay. We must be careful to not overpower and repress others in order to meet our needs. As long as we practice this false way of attainment, we will always live a lie. These insecurities, these reminders of the instability surrounding us because of the shoddiness of our foundation will sting us in the most inopportune ways, at the most inopportune times. So no matter how glamorous something is from the outside, if there is contention within it, is it even worth all of the energy? Does Pluto wonder if his wife loves him for him? Or does he doubt that she only stays because she has no other choice? Does she constantly have to reassure him of her love to maintain peace? Is she lying? There’s no way of knowing. But had she come to him of her own accord, the doubts and insecurities would be fewer and far between.

This is how we will interact with Scorpio season. We will be taking a look at the ways in which we have built shoddy foundations that have left us uncertain and how we are punishing others for our own insecurities. Have we held our tongues too long, failing to express our true feelings? Now is the time to be proactive and steadfast in our authenticity as these sentiments come to light. When we think of the things that we hid from ourselves and from others, we will see that those are the things that make us unique and special. What value do we have to the world when we do not stand out from this person or the next? What reason does anyone have to invest in something (or someone) that has been done time and time again, that is played out and tired?

There’s no hiding from our secrets now as Venus moves in retrograde motion through Scorpio, so we must take care to be discerning of our own feelings. Are we being defensive because we need to be (which is valid) or are we on edge because we are projecting fear of being alone and fear of losing what we love (also valid, but not real). It’s time to trust the gifts that have been bestowed upon us and be secure enough in ourselves to not go to war over everything that unsettles us. What is worth our time? The person at the grocery store who bumped your cart is not, that’s for sure. Conversely, exposing abuses of power, manipulation, gaslighting, ways in which we have been disempowered and abused definitely is worth going to war over and when we do, it must be done expertly. Channel aggression into actually productive pursuits that construct the reality that you truly desire. Self validation is a MUST this season and that is why we MUST be our most authentic selves and lead with an honest and open heart. Do not allow anyone to minimize you! Once again, this is leading us to a place of reclaiming our power; taking our throne; and living our best, most authentic life as our best, most authentic self! At the end of this season, believe me-- we will be the master of our domain, realizing that we don’t have to steal anyone else’s shine or dim anyone else’s light to be our most vibrant and charismatic selves. People will love us for us.

EXPECT BIG LOVE CHANGES AND LOTS OF HEART CLEARING! THE FEAR SURROUNDING CLAIMING OUR PERSONAL POWER AND PUTTING IT TO USE WILL BE ABSOLVED! WE WILL STEP INTO OUR RULERSHIP OVER OUR OWN LIVES AND SEE THE MANIFESTATION OF OUR HIGHEST REALITIES!

MANTRAS -

I am valid.

I am valuable.

I am worthwhile.

I am worthy of love.

I honor myself.

I respect myself.

I love myself.

I am a powerful person.

I claim my power.

I am secure in the validity of my power.

I am secure in who I am.

I govern myself and take control over my own life.

I am mindful and act with intention in all that I do.

I accept responsibility and accountability for who I was, who I am, what I have done, and what I do.

I clear space in my heart for healing by holding myself accountable.

I remove the shame and contrition surrounding who I am and what I have done.

I forgive myself for times in which I disempowered others.

I forgive myself for times in which I allowed myself to be disempowered.

I forgive others for the ways in which they have hurt and disempowered me and those that I love.

I am vigilant in protecting myself from all things and people that fail to honor, respect, and empower me, my agency, and my autonomy.

I recognize the ways in which I have actively and/or passively allowed myself to be disempowered and I let go of everything and everyone that once disempowered me.

I honor myself by respecting my boundaries and enforcing restrictions on anything and anyone that drains me.
